The National Assembly of the 6th convocation started its activities on Thursday, May 18. Addressing the newly-elected lawmakers Serzh Sargsyan congratulated all factions, one by one, on the occasion of open and transparent elections and wished them fruitful work. “I once again congratulate the Republican Party of Armenia, Tsarukyan alliance and Yelk alliance and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation - Dashnaktsutyun for assuming a political responsibility in the Republic of Armenia in the upcoming 5 years through free, competitive and highly assessed elections. I congratulate all MPs of the 6th convocation and wish you all productive work. Of course, we have much work to do,” he said. Serzh Sargsyan also spoke about the country’s new Constitution, the powers of the National Assembly and President of the Republic of Armenia. He called on the newly-elected MPs to maintain an atmosphere of mutual understanding in the hall and place state interests above personal ones. "I expect you to demonstrate taste and professionalism," he said. “As for the results of the elections, I would say that I am satisfied with the results of our party (Republican Party of Armenia). I respect the votes cast for other parties," Serzh Sargsysn stressed in his speech which more than an hour. In the end, he thanked everyone for the patience. After his speech, the MPs were sworn in.
