When compiling their list of candidates the Free Democrats focused on something important which is a matter of principle for them – the ideological unity. Chairman of the Free Democrats party Khachatur Kokobelyan says their party list is based on ‘pure ideology.’ “All our candidates on the list are liberal and they are all unanimous that Armenia should withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union. No one on the list is against it,” Mr Kokobelyan said today. He says voters should cast their ballots for his party as the Free Democrats is the only political force which wants to bring Armenia closer to the European Union. “The Eurasian Economic Union is a challenge, rather than an opportunity for Armenia. The April war in Karabakh is an evidence of it. Let us not forget the fact Azerbaijan gets 80 percent of its weapons from Russia,” he said. The party singles out two main problems in Armenia. The economy cannot thrive without investments which are few in the country. The second problem is connected with Artsakh. The Karabakh conflict cannot be resolved without the help of the civilized world. We do not think that Moscow can give us the answers to these questions. Speaking about their chances in the April 2 parliamentary elections, Mr Kokobelyan said, “Wedo not care about passing the threshold. Unlike other forces we do not considers ourselves to be saviors but we have chosen a path that can lead to salvation.” Nor can the party imagine its further cooperation with other forces. “I do not think that the opposition should unite. I see nothing more vulgar in politics. There can be unions only over ideologies,” said Mr Kokobelyan.
