Artsvik Minasyan: We are trying to further reduce emissions (video)
“The measures taken to reduce emissions are not enough,” Minister of Nature Protection Artsvik Minasyan said on January 31. He says the Paris Agreement (an agreement within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) has already been brought to the National Assembly. “I hope the National Assembly will ratify the document in its upcoming four-day sitting. It will enable us to introduce [through grants] the latest technology which helps reduce emissions. Industrial and mining enterprises will benefit from it. According to our estimates, these grants can provide a stable income of $ 50 million which will allow us to have a more comfortable environment,” the minister said. Mr Minasyan added that the number of emissions has substantially reduced as compared to Soviet times. "If in the Soviet times the annual emissions totaled 25 million tons, today the number has dropped to 10 million tons. We think that the figure is still high and now we are trying to reduce it to 7 million tons,” he said.
