The prosecutor in the case of Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the Founding Parliament movement, today motioned that Safaryan be sent to 2.5 years in prison. “Thanks God, he did not motion for ten years,” Gevorg Safaryan said at the end of the sitting. During the next court hearing scheduled for December 27, Safaryan’s lawyer will make a defense speech. Gevorg Safaryan, who is charged under Criminal Code Article 316.1(violence against a government representative), was detained during clashes between police and demonstrators in Yerevan’s Liberty Square on New Year’s Eve.
