Gagik Jhangiryan: Do not think that budget will not be robbed after the bill is passed
“It is not so easy to pass a law among these authorities which implies criminal liability for people in power,” Gagik Jhangiryan, a lawmaker of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), said in the National Assembly on December 14. “When we speak about this bill, one gets the impression that once the law comes into forces, it will put an end to everything: officials will no longer take bribes or abuse their positions, no one will rob the budget, etc,” Mr. Jhangiryan said. The opposition lawmaker says one needs not pin hopes on this new type of criminal liability; this is simply another provision of the Criminal Code that concerns offences committed by officials. The National Assembly is discussing on Wednesday the draft amendments to the Criminal Code that criminalize illicit enrichment.
