Political analyst: One will be naïve to pin hopes on new electoral code (video)
The Law on Political Parties is as important as the Electoral Code, say political analysts. One should first understand who he is going to vote for. “… especially under the new constitution that gives the entire power to the parties. They do not assume serious responsibility,” says Stepan Danielyan, Chairman of the Cooperation for Democracy NGO. The specialists express their concerns about the draft law on political parties, which has recently been put into circulation. The authors of the bill should have taken into consideration the peculiarities of our country and the practice of other states. “They were to have written that political parties which massively distributed election bribes committed violations in the elections and are to be dissolved,” Mr. Danielyan said. Manvel Sargsyan, Head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies, says the parties should be liquidated even when they claim that elections have been rigged. Specialists think one will be too naïve to pin hopes on the new electoral code. Political parties in Armenia have not obeyed and will not obey the laws and the authorities will keep silent, as it is advantageous to them. Specialists are sure that political parties cannot succeed unless the current system is changed.
