During the press conference on the topic “Turkey and the NK issues resolution process: new challenges”, Manvel Sargsyan, Head of the Armenian Center of Strategic and National Research, touched upon the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov’s statement made on October 14 that Turkey might have a positive role in Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution. Mr Sargsyan says that there is nothing essential in this statement: “Having complex relationship with Turkey for months, Russia is trying to establish new relations, making use of the fact that Turkey has new problems with the western countries, and it is natural, that on the way of establishing those relations it is impossible to avoid the issues of Armenia. The main demands, which Turkey can bring forward here, are the issue of Nagorno Karabakh and Armenian-Turkish relations,” said Manvel Sargsyan. Touching upon the issue that for years the Minsk Group co-chairing countries have supported Armenia’s stance that the Armenian-Turkish relations must be settled without preconditions, Manvel Sargsyan noted that the strengthening of Turkey’s role in Karabakh issue can be commented in different ways, “We can say it was a good agreement, which may strengthen Turkey’s positions in Karabakh issue, but we can also suppose that in that way Turkey has already put a barrier to the development of the Armenian-Turkish relations, as it understands that Armenia will never agree to it.” Head of the Armenian center for Strategic and National Research summed up his speech, by saying that we should wait and see how the events will develop.
