Why did Lavrov take photo of Ararat? Political analyst explains the reason
Political analyst Sergey Shakaryants says people need not take the statement made by the Russian FM on the Karabakh peace process literally. “During the four-day skirmishes in Karabakh in April and after them Sergey Lavrov made 2 or 3 statements in which he blamed Turkey for inciting a war [in Karabakh]. But after the normalization of Russian-Turkish relations, he began making other statements. We all remember that he took photos of Ararat at Zvartnots airport before his departure from Yerevan. A person wishing to harm us, would not do such a thing,” Mr. Shakaryants said. The political analyst says Turkish-Russian rapprochement is connected with Iran's statement on the April war. “Iran had warned Turkey that it would review its relations with the country if Turkey did not stop provoking a war [in Karabakh]. In diplomacy, it means “I am declaring a pre-war on you.” After the statement Erdogan had to dismiss Davutoglu as the country’s prime minister and improve its relations with Russia.” Speaking about Ilham Aliyev’s statement that Artsakh is likely to be granted the status of an autonomous state, the political analyst said one need not take Azerbaijani president’s words seriously.
