Yerevan celebrates its 2798th anniversary (video)
Today Yerevan celebrates 2798th anniversary of its foundation. This year the celebrations will be held under the slogan “A city of the Sun”. The Municipality has planned a number of events, but this year the concert at Republic Square and the parade in front of the main building of the Municipality aren’t included in the program. Especially for “Erebuni-Yerevan” celebration in 1968 “Erebuni-Yerevan” song was written (lyrics- Paruyr Sevak, music- Edgar Hovhannisyan), which later became anthem of Yerevan. This song was first performed by a 2750-member band headed by Tatul Altunyan. During the first celebration complex of fountains consisting of 2750 fountains was opened in the park adjacent to Republic Square. The holiday of the city is celebrated from October 10 to 11. In 2008 the 2790th anniversary of the city was solemnly celebrated.
