Karen Karapetyan has said what we have been saying for many years - Levon Zurabyan (video)
“It is too early to assess the activity of [newly appointed Prime Minister] Karen Karapetyan, at least one should wait for one hundred days, but we can ask him several questions to know his reply,” Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction said during the parliamentary briefings on Sept. 16. “Whoever becomes Prime Minister, what can he do in this corrupt environment, where the regime relies on monopolies and illegal privileges? If he tries to dismantle everything, it will mean an end to the regime. That is not possible. We do not have high expectations. Second, considering the statements of the prime minister, when he said ‘monopoly is bad if it is based on administrative decisions, we can say that we see profound disagreements between the previous and current governments. Monopoly is always evil, even in a competitive environment. Should it be a good thing, Americans would not adopt antitrust laws,” Mr. Zurabyan said. At the same time, the HAK lawmaker reminds of the diagnosis made by the newly appointed PM - the economy is in a grave situation. “We have always been blamed for exaggerating things and distorting the reality. Now Karen Karapetyan comes and says what we have been saying for years. He also said it is possible to reduce the prices of gas and electricity. We were accused of deceiving people when we spoke about it. What can we do if the Republican Party is engaged in pre-election populism? We shall not say such a thing. Let them mind their business.” Zurabyan says the change of prime minister was aimed at decreasing people's disgust for the authorities. “Many have great expectations but these expectations will die very soon,” he said in conclusion.
