Sos Gimishyan: I cannot accept the fact that the West or Russia should appoint our prime ministers (video)
We should try to get our sovereignty back from power centres if we want our country to return to normal, Chairman of the Christian-Democratic Party said on September 13 speaking about Karen Karapetyan’s appointment as Prime Minister of Armenia. “As an Armenian, I cannot accept the fact that our prime minister should be appointed by the West or Russia,” Sos Gimishyan said today. He says Armenians can decide themselves whom they want to see as the next PM but the system does not work in Armenia. “It is the Venice Commission that decides whether the government in Armenia is legitimate or not, who is to become the country’s next president. The Venice Commission has the final say. The opinion of all other observers is ignored. A person with a 5-percent rating is appointed president by the Venice Commission because it would be terrible for them to see the people and authorities united in Armenia,” Mr. Gimishyan stressed. Speaking about the policy of former Prime Minister [Hovik Abrahamyan], Sos Gimishyan said it was always determined and approved by Serzh Sargsyan. So was the case with the government led by Tigran Sargsyan. “They did whatever Serzh Sargsyan told them to do. Everything is decided by one person in our country,” he added. Mr. Gimishyan advised everyone to wait and see what Karen Karapetyan will do as Prime Minister.
