“Mining companies succeed in avoiding payments”
According to the words of Chairman of Green Union Hakob Sanasaryan, since 1998 such laws have been adopted by the RA authorities, which spoiled the whole logic of mining industry. According to the words of Sanasaryan, there are special pay rates set by the law on Environmental pay rates, but the mining companies manage to avoid payments and transfers to the state treasury. “The mining companies must pay minimum AMD 600 to state treasury for 1 ton of waste, but the mining industry waste is presented as dump, which isn’t set by any law and isn’t taxed,” says Chairman of Green Union. According to the calculations of Hakob Sanasaryan, in case of exploitation of Teghut mine, the mining company must pay USD 23.4 billion to the state treasury only for tailings and barren rocks, yet, it is noted in the plan, that during 25 years Teghut will transfer USD 101 million to the state treasury, and the mining company will have USD 406 million pure income.
