Gevorg Safaryan will not be taken to court
Gevorg Safaryan, an activist of the New Armenia Public Salvation Front, will not be taken to court on Wednesday to participate in the hearing of his case. Tigran Hayrapetyan, Safaryan’s lawyer, was informed that Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan did not order the bailiffs to go after the defendant. The lawyer was surprised to hear such an explanation. Tigran Hayrapetyan is going to visit the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork Marash districts to know the reason for such a decision. Gevorg Safaryan who is charged under Criminal Code Article 316.1(violence against a government representative) has been in custody for seven months. He was detained during clashes between police and demonstrators in Yerevan’s Liberty Square on New Year’s Eve.
