Members of the radical opposition group that seized a police station in Yerevan earlier on Sunday, demanding the release of its leader [Jirayr Sefilyan] are not going to surrender themselves. Talking to Yerevan-based Aravot.am, Varujan Avetisyan, a senior member of the Founding Parliament movement, who is among the militants inside the seized building, said, “The situation is relatively calm now but we are waiting for police actions. They [police] seem to have stopped preparing for an attack." Police Colonel Artur Vanoyan was killed and several others were wounded early on Sunday when the armed group stormed the police building in Yerevan’s Erebuni district. The gunmen demand the release of Jirayr Sefilyan and the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan. During the attack, the group took several police officers hostage, including Yerevan Police Chief Valery Osipyan and Deputy Police Chief Vardan Yeghiazaryan. They had come to negotiate with us and we kept them inside the building in order to ensure our security," Varujan Avetisyan said.
