This is a political rather than a financial problem - Aram Manukyan
Aram Manukyan, secretary of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction, today presented the ‘sad picture of our country.’ “In 2015 compared with 2014, GDP dropped from 11.6 billion to 10.6 billion – a decline by 1 billion,” he said on Monday. The HAK representative considers the new Electoral Code to be the only positive step in the country. “I want to commend all those organizations and political parties that contributed to the adoption of the draft. The process is not over yet, we need 4 million euros for the implementation and the international organizations exert pressure on Armenian authorities to have their share in the process,” he said. “This will be a landmark decision for our authorities. This is a political rather than a financial problem. The Armenian government refuses to do it, it will face serious financial challenges from outside. They will thus deprive themselves of the funds that might flow to Armenia in the coming years. There are many methods of struggle. These four provisions of the EC are serious success and we cannot miss that success from our hands. I can prompt our authorities where they can take the 4 million euros,” Mr Manukyan said. He says the international organizations view this compromise version of the Electoral Code as a step forward and both the United States and the European Union are interested in the enforcement of the new law. “At the moment, the authorities are obliged to give a concrete solution,” he added.
