Ambassador Peter Switalski says he understands the position of civil society (video)
The European Union is ready to provide considerable support for the implementation of the consensus over the Electoral Code, Head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Peter Switalski said on July 4. He added that a number of countries are ready to join them. However, Ambassador Switalski declined to answer how much financial support the EU is ready to provide or the implementation of the consensus. While they understand that Armenia has other problems to solve, they think the implementation of the agreement would be a wise move for the country’s future. Peter Switalski says the consensus between the government and opposition is perceived outside the country [Armenia] as a historic event: they view it as an attempt to overcome their differences for the sake of a greater purpose. With regard to the neutral position of the civil society about the outcome of the so-called 4 + 4 + 4 format negotiations, the EU official said he understands ‘the position of civil society.’ “It is their right but many [in armenia] have understood that there is positive progress in the EC,” Peter Switalski said in conclusion.
