The visit of Archbishop Aram Ateshyan to Armenia has been cancelled, armtimes.com reports citing Ara Gochunyan, editor-in-chief of the Istanbul-based Armenian 'Zhamanak' daily. When asked about the reasons of the cancellation, Gochunyan said most likely it is connected with the tense atmosphere in Armenia after Ateshyan’s controversial letter to President Recep Erdogan. Aram Ateshyan, General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarch of Turkey, was due to arrive in Armenia on June 15. The date of the visit has been kept secret until now. The Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople said they could not confirm the information and asked us to contact them in the second half of the day. Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Headquarters of the Armenian Church, does not answer our calls.
