Use of nuclear weapon by the RA discussed at NATO PA
On May 28-30 the RA NA delegation took part in the activities of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) spring session held in Tirana. By the way, new member joined the Armenian delegation- the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) lawmaker Mikayel Melkumyan. He noted in his speech that during the assembly Azerbaijan again showed aggressive behavior and they were able to reply in an appropriate way, “We were really able to show that Aliyev’s government aims at displaying aggression on the line of contact for diverting the attention of its people from inner social problems of the country. We are always ready to handle Azerbaijan’s aggression.” Head of the delegation, the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) lawmaker Koryun Nahapetyan noted that the Secretary General of NATO addressed the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides in a written form, to include the issue of April Four-day war into the topics of discussion, “Azerbaijani weren’t against. During the sitting of the Political Committee, Head of the Committee declared that the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations would be granted an opportunity to make relevant statements. I expressed our stance that we didn’t find it appropriate to discuss that issue there, but it was noted that the agenda had already been determined and Head of the Committee found it appropriate that there should have been bilateral statements.” According to his words, the representative of the Azerbaijani delegation again voiced the same accusation in his statement that the RA occupied their territories, the Armenian side unleashed the war, “I formulated my statement in that logic, noting clear facts which side unleashed the war in reality. The case of Ramil Safarov was also noted and there was relevant reaction.” The use of nuclear weapon by the RA was also discussed during the NATO PA, and Azerbaijan tried to make use of that fact. Koryun Nahapetyan stated that they reiterated the RA will that there can be no military solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, “Agreements reached in Vienna were mentioned. We think that NATO will be consistent. After these statements the situation got tense; one of the Azerbaijanis again tried to touch upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. It angered other participants of the assembly, as the issue, in essence, had already been discussed. Later, in the same Committee, when we were presenting our approaches towards the military operations against the IS, the Azerbaijani representative posed a question, again relating to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which was out of the topic. The members of the assembly interrupted the both sides.”
