Does government plan to stop operation of Armenia’s chemical giant (video)
Speaking during the government's question-and-answer session in the National Assembly, the HAK's parliamentary leader Levon Zurabyan spoke about the re-operation of the Nairit plant. “A working group was set up to assess the conditions in the plant which was supposed to make proposals in a short period of time for the re-launch of the plant. However, the group has not presented any proposals to this day. On the other hand, employees of the chemical plant have received notices of termination of employment. Does it mean that the government plans to stop the plant’s operation?” Zurabyan asked. Levon Yolyan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said the working group had been set up by his order in March. During this period, we have been studying the chemicals of the plant. “We have an agreement with the Minister of Emergency Situations to neutralize chemicals,” he said. With regard to the possible termination of the plant’s operation, the minister said, “I want to inform you that the plant stopped production of rubber in March 2010.”
