L. Zurabyan: Publication of voter lists is the most consensual (video)
During 4+4+4 format negotiations out of the opposition’s five proposals the Armenian National Congress (HAK) will especially insist on publication of voter lists after voting. HAK faction head Levon Zurabyan thinks that if it is solved, 60-70 percent of vote rigging will be closed, “So at the moment I am not going to make any concessions on that issue.” Mr Zurabyan doesn’t forget that even Dashnaktsutyun, which is in coalition with the Republican Party, insists on the publication of voter lists, “The publication of voter lists is the most consensual.” Though, the HAK will not make concessions also in connection with the rest four provisions, which are cleaning of voter lists following the example of Georgia, inking fingers or installation of cameras, “Those are minimal demands, I don’t want to make any concessions, why should we make concessions?” Daniel Ionisyan, representative of the civil society, also insists on the publication of voter lists, “Every person must know, must have a chance to know whether his relative or neighbor, who isn’t in the republic, has voted or not.” The young activist thinks that those, who carry out electoral fraud, must understand that voting instead of the absent citizens will have its consequences, “He must realize that tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, in a week it may be revealed.” Ashot Melikyan, Chairman of “Committee of Protection of Freedom of Speech” NGO, notes that the authorities may falsify even if there is a perfect Electoral Code, “Finally all we can see the important role of those young people, who have their role in the polling stations, starting from distribution of bribes to threatening journalists.” By the way, Mr Melikyan also claims that out of five proposals of the opposition, cleaning and publication of voter lists is the most important.
