Shirkhanyan case: What decision will Prosecutor General make?
Former Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia, Vahan Shirkhanyan, who underwent surgery two days ago, has been transferred to prison. His lawyer Stepan Voskanyan visited Shirkhanyan on Monday. He says Shirkhanyan was in a normal mood. The former official had difficulty walking because of varicose vein problems. Stepan Voskanyan has also filed a petition with Prosecutor General requesting him to change Shirkhanyan restraint. “We are waiting for the reply,” the lawyer said to A1+. Vahan Shirkhan was arrested on December 19, 2015, on suspicion of aiding a criminal gang led by Artur Vardanyan. On November 25, 2015, law enforcement agencies raided a house in Yerevan and arrested nine individuals, including Artur Vardanyan. The National Security Service (NSS) announced that the gang was planning to carry out a series of serious crimes in Armenia. Shirkhanyan has been in custody for 5 months.
