Serzh Sargsyan beats FIDE President in blitz chess
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan defeated FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhivov in an unplanned blitz chess game, Narek Nikoghosyan, Assistant to the Press Secretary of the President of the Republic of Armenia, said in a Facebook post. The game took place on the sidelines of the Candidates Tournament in Moscow. Chairman of Armenia’s Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan attended the official opening ceremony. Armenia’s leading chess player Levon Aronian participates in the tournament along with eight other chess players. The winner of the Candidates Tournament, which has about a €420-thousand prize fund, will be the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship against the reining champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), from November 11 to 30, in New York.
