Zaruhi Postanjyan: We have appeared in the same vicious cycle (video)
The Heritage party will participate in the upcoming mayoral elections in Gyumri and Vanadzor cities. “You will see know the format of our participation. We really stress the importance of local government elections in the sense that they precede political developments,” Zaruhi Postanjyan, a member of the Heritage faction, said on March 7. She says her party does not accept the option proposed by the Electoral Code as it does not reflect their perception of elections. “What they propose us under the name of the proportional representation system, is only a statement. We have again appeared in the same vicious cycle. I do not think that they [authorities] intend to cede anything; otherwise they would not have drafted a secret document and sent it to the Venice Commission without discussing it with different forces,” she said. While the opposition lawmaker does not exclude the possibility of developing common approaches with other opposition forces over the new Electoral Code, she does not think it necessary to set up a working group to deal with the package of changes. “The position of the opposition forces is well known to everyone and work has been carried out in the field for many years,” she said. At the same time, Zaruhi Postanjyan does not share the opinion that the publication of voter lists after the elections contradicts the provisions for protection of personal data, as defined in the legal framework. “These statements are absolutely groundless. Each person who goes to the polls is well known,” she said.
