No progress in “Shant Harutyunyan and friends” case
There is no news in “Shant Harutyunyan and friends” case, which is at the ECHR proceedings. As the advocate Inesa Petrosyan noted, on September 15 the case was presented to the European Court and was taken into consideration in 15 days. To remind, Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts found guilty of acts of hooliganism and use of violence against the government representative on November 5, 2013, on Mashtots Avenue. Besides Shant Harutyunyan another 13 persons were involved in the case, who had been found guilty and were sentenced from fine to 7 years imprisonment. The appeal was presented in connection with 11 persons. While presenting the appeal Inesa Petrosyan raised the issue of right to a fair trial. The verdict in the case was presented by the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts in 2 hours, when a 134-volume case was being investigated. The right to the last word of some defendants was also violated.
