Municipality: Reports about felling are false
Social networks and some media outlets spread information on Monday that trees were being cut near the Statue of Alexander Tamanyan in Yerevan’s Kentron district. Employees of Yerevan Municipality’s Nature Protection Department visited the site shortly afterwards to find that the reports were false and did not correspond to reality, the Municipality said in a statement. Earlier on Monday, representatives of the City Council’s opposition Hello Yerevan faction called A1+ to say that trees were being cut down on the territory of “Santa Fe” café. “We are improving the area,” David Melikbekyan, one of the security guards, told A1+’s reporter. He assured us that after the re-opening of the café the green area will be restored. He added that the Municipality issued permission still last August.
