Today the concert of renowned jazz pianist, composer Tigran Hamasyan was held in Gyumri in support of homeless families of Gyumri. The initiative is a part of the fundraising launched by photographer Hayk Barseghyan in January. The fundraising aims at collecting 120000 pounds during 53 days through http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/ website for providing flats to 13 homeless families. Renowned pianist performed in the neighborhood of a temporary shelter (domik) of one of the homeless families. Hayk Barseghyan says that the venue of the concert was specially chosen in order to draw the attention of the society and the state authorities to families living in hard conditions. “Each family’s story isn’t as simple as it may seem; they didn’t only lose their home and appeared in such a hard situation, they lived through much. Our final goal is raising attention at the international level so that the authorities will not ignore us and will be obliged to solve the issue. We have turned to the state authorities and are waiting for a response.” Famous pianist was giving the concert in the neighborhood of a domik belonging to 72-year-old Geghetsik Gevorgyan, who has serious health problems. Her son Samvel Gevorgyan notes that until now they haven’t applied to any institution. “I only remember us living in domiks, we have lived through so many bad things that good things seem unbelievable.” Actor Hayk Marutyan also came to support the initiative: “We have come both for listening to Tigran and making all these more sonorous. During 27 years the state hasn’t been able to solve the issue of domiks, but it should have been done. The residents of Gyumri have to do it by themselves, but I think that people still aren’t active enough, I don’t know, perhaps they have already got used to it, that nothing can be corrected, they are in despair. We all must join this initiative; I, frankly speaking, don’t expect anything from the state authorities.” Anahit Bakhshyan was also present at the concert: “It has been just a wonderful concert; you even want to give your life so that they achieve their goal. Long live Tigran, Hayk and other young people. They infect everybody with this initiative. It a real shame shame for our authorities, that they have presented Gyumri to the world in this way during all these years.” At the end of the concert Tigran Hamasyan was awarded gold medal of Gyumri Mayor, and the attendees were given a chance to donate money on the spot. The fundraising continues. gyumri hamasyan2 22
