Ara Papian: Current situation is extremely positive for Armenia (video)
Head of the Modus Vivendi center Ara Papian believes that the current situation is ‘extremely positive’ for our country in terms of foreign policy. “We can advance our interests given the worsening relations between Russia and Turkey we can advance our interests but the grave situation in the country [Armenia] does not allow us to use this and other opportunities,” Mr Papian said on February 22. While he predicts escalation of the conflict between Russia and Turkey, the analyst excludes the possibility of war. “The two countries are carrying out military operations in third countries,” he said. Mr Papian agrees that Armenian should not interfere but he says it is practically impossible. “Russia has a military base in Armenia and Armenian cannot simply stay away. On the other hand, Turkey does not perceive Armenia as a neutral party. Whether we like it or not we shall always be viewed as Russia’s ally.” The political analyst says it is highly important that Armenia can have control on Nakhichevan. The time is also convenient for us to take decisive steps in the Karabakh issue.
