Why wasn’t Valery Permyakov handed over to Armenian jurisdiction during arrest?
Why wasn’t Valery Permyakov, a 20-year-old Russian conscript charged with the murder of a seven-member Armenian family, handed over to Armenian jurisdiction during his arrest on Armenia’s border with Turkey? The Armenian side has been unable to receive an answer to the question to this day. “Why didn’t they inform the Armenian side immediately? It is obvious that this witness followed the instructions of his superiors,” Yerem Sargsyan, a legal successor of the victims said during today’s court hearing. He is going to file a petition asking to summon to court the chief of the border guard. In January 12, 2015, early in the morning, Permyakov entered the house of the Avetisyans and shot dead six members of the family, including a two-year-old girl. He also stabbed with the bayonet of his automatic rifle a six-month-old boy who died in hospital a week later.
