You Won’t Pass It: Civic initiative creates national platform
"You Won’t Pass It" civil initiative today announced about the formation of a national democratic platform. “Concerned by limitations of democracy and systematic violations of human rights, viewing the constant practice of falsified elections and referendums as a serious challenge to the country's development, considering dissemination of civic values and development of civic society as an important precondition for promoting democracy in Armenia, protecting human rights and conducting free and fair elections we are creating a National Democratic Platform. The main areas of activities: 1. to be involved in the drafting of the new Electoral Code, proposing to limit mechanisms of election fraud 2. to ensure wider public involvement in the document processing 3. to inform citizens about possible methods of combating election fraud, preparing them for the upcoming elections The Platform adopts the method of non-violent struggle, openness and publicity, cooperation and active resistance, volunteerism, as well as the principle of encouraging unity and putting aside differences," the group said in a statement issued on February 1.
