Political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan thinks that the two anti-Armenian resolutions to be debated by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on January 26 cannot have serious consequences for Armenia. “PACE passed many other resolutions of this kind but they only remained as documents,” Mr Iskandaryan told media on January 25. He says the response of the Minsk Group mediators is much more important in the given situation. At the same time, the political analyst says we should not pay much attention to Azerbaijan’s reaction. “I cannot understand the uproar around the reports in Armenia,” he said. Alexander Iskandaryan stresses that Azerbaijan cannot solve all issues the way it wants. “They may think that they can do everything with money and dictate their will at the PACE, but it is not so,” he said. The political analyst says the documents have already lost their political significance. “That country [Azerbaijan] is in a deplorable situation. The Azerbaijan which initiated those resolutions does not exist any longer. The country is in a difficult situation; structural changes are underway there,” he stressed. Anyway, Mr Iskandaryan says despite the serious situation in their country, Azerbaijani authorities do not seek a compromise with Armenia. “Instead of trying to resolve the conflict, Azerbaijan is attempting to continue the war by non-military means. And since the military methods do not work, they are trying to use political, media, sports and other domains to achieve success over Armenia.”
