Shant Harutyunyan stops hunger strike
Head of “Tseghakron” party Shant Harutyunyan stopped hunger strike, which he started on January 21 in support of Hayk Kyureghyan, who was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment for firing an air pistol. Shahen Harutyunyan, son of Shant Harutyunyan noted that Hayk stopped hunger strike and thirst strike, consequently there was no sense in continuing hunger strike by Shant Harutyunyan. Vardan Vardanyan also stopped his hunger strike. To remind, the group of public observers conducting public monitoring of penitentiary institutions and bodies of the Ministry of Justice visited Nubarashen Penitentiary. With the mediation of the monitoring group, H. Kyureghyan was assured by the prison administration that he would be transferred to a solitary confinement by which his safety will be ensured. Then Hayk Kyureghyan announced that he would stop hunger and thirst strike. He had been holding hunger strike for 8 days and thirst strike for 5 days.
