Many young activists are being followed, says Varuzhan Avetisyan (video)
Varuzhan Avetisyan, a senior member of the New Armenia Public Salvation Front, says the violence on Hovhannes Harutyunyan, 16, ‘was ordered by the authorities.’ “Many young activists, who are affiliated with the opposition group, say they are being followed and chased. For example, Suzy Gevorgyan says she is being followed all the time. Persecution and harassment against activists aimed at splitting the movement have become massive,” Varuzhan Avetisyan told A1+. Many in Armenia ask why the anti-government movement turns to the police, which immediately obey the regime, after each case of violence exerted against its members. “While we understand that these crimes are not disclosed as a rule, we also believe that perpetrators will be brought to justice a short time later, hence, it is necessary to record and protocol everything,” Mr Avetisyan said.
