One year after the cruel massacre of seven members of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri the door of their flat on Myasnikyan Street again opened. The relatives mourning grief of heavy loss paid a visit. What was the real motive of the murder? Did Russian soldier Valeri Permyakov act alone or whose order did he fulfill? The chain of unanswered questions angers the relatives of the Avetisyan family. The fact whether Permyakov is a Satanist or not particularly angers Rita Petrosyan. Advocate Norayr Norikyan thinks that during one year the Armenian law enforcement system hasn’t used the whole volume of its powers and rights. He explains the situation using football terminology. “We allowed the Russian side to defend themselves in our field and start an attack, score a goal, deprive us of defense and any chance of counterattack forcing us to score several goals to our own goal. We were given the status of sad spectator.” Political figures, ordinary citizens today have visited Gyumri in order to pay tribute to the Avetisyan family. Today the words have been more moderate than a year ago. But last year during these days Gyumri, as well as Yerevan were furiously demanding to hand over Valeri Permyakov to the Armenian side. After the funeral of the Avetisyan family the passions heated up. After clashes with the police 19 people were charged with hooliganism. Preliminary investigation is underway connected with case. In August, 2015, Russia’s North Caucasus District Military Court sentenced Valeri Permyakov to 10 years imprisonment for desertion and illegal bearing of weapons. And the case of the murder is investigated by the Armenian side in the Russian military base. So far one court hearing has been held, during which it was announced that Permyakov was a member of Satanic sect and that he was mentally healthy at the moment of crime. The next court hearing is scheduled on January 18. The relatives of the Avetisyan family have already informed about their intention to boycott the court hearing.
