Hayk Martirosyan: Our answer to Azerbaijan is shameful (video)
Escalation in relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran will continue, says Hayk Martirosyan, who received his PhD in Political Science at Sorbonne University. There is strong rivalry between the two countries in question. “Saudi King is said to be suffering from weak memory disorder and the country is actually ruled by his son.” What position should Armenia assume in the current state of matters? “Our country has serious problems to behave in the way that it will not become an accomplice,” he said. Speaking about last week’s arrest of a Bahraini citizen at Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport, Mr Martirosyan said, “Should he prove to be a spy, we must not extradite him. But in this case we shall be obliged to grant him political asylum without violating any law,” Mr Martirosyan said. He says Russia is reinforcing its military base in Armenia for political purposes. “Russia is strengthening its contingent in Armenia to show its force to Turkey.” Speaking about the strained relations between Russia and Turkey, the political analyst said, “Though it will not grow into an armed conflict, I am sure that the relations will deteriorate even further.” When asked to assess Armenia’s response to Azerbaijan amid the ongoing border tensions, Mr Martirosyan said, “Our response is shameful. We continually declare that we shall retaliate [against the enemy] in due order, in fact do not do it. We should give an adequate response. We let them do whatever they want and then we announce that we did not retaliate in an adequate way. We should follow the example of Israel and fire ten times more.” “We have another age-old problem with Turkey, he added. “Sooner or later, Turkey will split. We are implementing a very cautious policy which means we are almost scary,” he said.
