“2015 was full of interesting and important exhibitions. Among them, I would like to single out the exhibitions dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide,” Chairman of Artists' Union of Armenia Karen Aghamyan told reporters today. Summarizing the passing year, Mr Aghamyan said that people in Armenia show interest in arts. “Armenians have desire and ability to create, which pleases me,” he said adding that the Union still cannot solve many problems faced by Armenian artists. In particular, Armenian painters cannot afford to exhibit their works abroad because it is very expensive. The year was also full of events for the Union of Composers, its chairman Aram Satyan said today. One of the main problems is that they receive little funding by the state. “We performed four concerts in France, all dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. But only two of them were financed by the state,” he said. Speaking about the existing problems, Mr Satyan stressed that elements of foreign music are introduced in the Armenian music. Embassies give free CDs, and gradually foreign elements appear in our music. This applies to both pop and classical music. Armenian songs are no longer Armenian,” he said.
