Hrant Bagratyan: I would not dare to touch the Constitution (video)
There are 5-6 countries that do not have a constitution, including Jews and Englishmen. They say they do not have so many clever people as to write a constitution, Armenian lawmaker Harnt Bagratyan said in Areni village where the participants of the “Yes” and “No” reality show arrived on Friday to meet local residents as part of the campaign in the referendum on constitutional amendments. “Believe me I do understand something from science. I have defended my PhD in three countries and yet I would not dare to touch the Constitution. I am convinced that it is a moral issue, the Constitution must be written by people. When Ariel Sharon was asked why Israel did not have constitution he said people would write in the course of time,” Mr Baghratyan said. He stressed in his speech that it is a long and serious process to amend the county’s Organic Law, and there was not such a need in the country now. “The Constitution is not a mathematical problem and I cannot simply sit and solve the sum in a few minutes. Therefore, I warn the authorities to be attentive. If the opposite thing happens? If they come in three years and say, “We are no better off now than we were before?”
