Sefilyan summoned to Investigation Committee for interrogation
Head of the united opposition headquarters of the 'New Armenia' salvation front, Zhirayr Sefilyan, today was summoned to the Investigation Committee for interrogation. Sefilyan was forced to remain at the Committee for an hour. “They asked me absurd questions and most of them concerned the activity of Arantsk NGO,” Sefilyan told A1+. However, Sefilyan exercised his defender’s right and refused to answer the questions. “Before leaving the Committee I announced that the criminal charges filed against us on February 18 were politically motivated. The criminal case is not discontinued deliberately. This is again a political order and political persecution connected with my current political activities,” he said. The united opposition headquarters views such actions as a failed attempt to exert pressure on the headquarters and its leader and frighten people. “Before December 1, they [authorities] will do everything to exert psychological pressure on people and our supporters. They make it clear that they can send us to jail again. We are really frightened,” Sefilyan said with a big smile on his face. Five members of the Founding Parliament movement are accused of “preparing mass disturbances” on April 24 which is punishable by between four and 10 years in prison under Armenia’s Criminal Code. They were all released after giving cognizance not to leave the city.
