Lawmaker: Many companies close down because of tax burden
During the debate on the draft amendments to the Law on Taxes, Head of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction Naira Zohrabyan announced that gibe the rules of game in Armenia one can say that the lesser the human factor becomes in tax institutions, the smaller corruptions risks get. Then addressing Deputy Finance Minister Vakhtang Mirumyan she said, “We get horrifying reports that thousands of small businesses have closed in Armenia. I think you should possess clear statistics as to how many businesses have closed in a year. SMEs are the backbone of our economy and their closure is a blow to our economy.” Mr Mirumyan said he could not provide exact figures at that moment and promised to do it later. “We should not focus on the number of closed SMEs but we should try to understand how many opened in their place. Only the comparison will give us the correct picture.” Ms. Zohrabyan also reminded the Deputy Minister that many companies close down because of tax burden.
