While lifer Soghomon Kocharyan was released from prison on the basis of serious illness and lived 15 days in freedom, Karen Boyajyan sharing the same fate died in the penitentiary institution. “In case of Soghomon Kocharyan, when it had been written constantly for more than a year and finally almost at the end, he was released, but for the whole struggle, he would not be in freedom even those 15 days, there had been no such support in case of Boyajyan, it is the whole issue,” human rights defender Avetik Ishkhanyan told “A1+”. Advocate Hayk Alumyan became convinced that the problem of lifers is very deep and during his presidency Robert Kocharyan had no right to replace death sentence with life imprisonment. “It mustn’t have been in that way, as a person cannot be sentenced to a punishment, which didn’t exist when the crime was committed. It is absolute illegality.” The funeral of Soghomon Kocharyan will took place tomorrow, and the reason for the death of Karen Boyajyan will be clarified by the forensic medical examination.
