Republican lawmaker Lernik Alexanyan does not deny that there are many gaps in the political domain but he is sure that the amended constitution will solve many of them. “The new constitution will stabilize the political field,” he said. The representative of the ruling party does not like it when his party is blamed for everything happening in the country. “We have joined the Eurasian Economic Union. I cannot say that our accession to the EEU will solve all problems in the country but what would happen if we did not do it? It was a political decision and I think if a referendum was held on the issue our people would vote for it. The Republican Party has become a target and all problems are blamed on the party,” the lawmaker said. The lawmaker is convinced that the new constitution will increase the sense of responsibility of officials. “The minister will be accountable and must be answerable to Parliament for his agency. Similarly, the prime minister will be made accountable for his actions. And no one, even the heads of institutions, will raise their fingers and point at the president blaming him for a court decision or a problem in their institutions,” Mr Alexanyan continued. “There are no devils and angels. We are all people and we think about our future. And all of us, to a greater or lesser extent, should think about the interests of the state.” The Republican lawmaker says no one has been instructed to provide votes during the constitutional referendum. “If someone pays lip service in a village it does not mean he is carrying out a government instruction,” he said citing another example. “What is the difference between a person who lays asphalt on roads and another person who gives vodka for someone’s funeral? Bribes and charity are very close today and it is very difficult of distinguish between them.”
