This year 33 cases of meningitis have been registered in the republic, informed Gayane Sahakyan, Head of the Healthcare Ministry's immune/preventive national program. “They are mainly people, who haven’t been vaccinated, by the way, there are many children among them.” According to the expert, cases of pneumonia have decreased. Mrs. Sahakyan highlighted that being vaccinated in time is very important, otherwise some diseases may be even dangerous for life. Meningitis is among the most dangerous ones. “Such a case has been registered recently. The disease had a very serious course. 15-year-old girl didn’t come out of that condition and died 2 days ago.” It is known that no vaccination is made against chickenpox in our country, though there are many cases. “Yes, in Armenia chickenpox isn’t controlled. That vaccine is considered to be relatively new and must be provided with the state means. But the state, apparently, cannot do it,” noted Mrs. Sahakyan. The expert assured that all the other vaccines are of high quality and necessary quantity is available in the country.
