Armenian lawmaker Stepan Demirtchyan today announced in the National Assembly that the annual report of the Ombudsman’s Office has shown that many key problems in the country remain unresolved. “In the report, the Ombudsman speaks about the improper t investigation into the ten deaths of March 1, 2008. He said the same thing in his previous report. He expressed doubts over the investigation within a reasonable period of time. “There is no doubt that the March 1 bloodshed will not be revealed as long as the acting regime is in power,” Mr Demirtchyan said. “Nor have the crimes and offences committed by officials and mentioned in the Ombudsman’s previous report been revealed to this date. It is obvious that impunity and permissiveness have led the country to this desperate state,” the lawmaker added. Mr Demirchyan says the country needs systemic, fundamental and qualitative changes. “We should start with elections; we should hold democratic elections in the country. How can you talk about human rights if people are deprived of their constitutional right to form a government,” he said.
