Gor Arakelyan, the son-in-law of Armenian lawmaker Karo Karapatyan, has been sentenced to 6,6 years’ imprisonment in relation to a shooting case in the territory of Yerevan’s flea market known as Vernissage. On May 17, Gor Arakelyan, 29, started an argument with Nerses Melkonyan and Valerik Hovhannisyan near Vernissage. Five people received gunshot wounds in the legs as a result of the argument, including Melkonyan and his friend Hovhannisyan. Four of the five wounded people underwent surgeries after being transported to hospital. The court also sentenced Nerses Melkonyan and Valerik Hovhannisyan to 2 and 3 years in prison, respectively. Earlier the prosecutor motioned the court to sentence Hovhannisyan to two years. Angered by the court decision, Hovhannisyan’s father, Samvel Hovhannisyan, said they will appeal the verdict in a higher court as everyone involved in the case study is corrupted and they failed to unveil the truth.’
