Khosrov Harutyunyan: Tigran Sargsyan is only coordinator (video)
The main function of the Eurasian Economic Commission is to ensure the functioning and development of the Eurasian Economic Union and to prepare proposals for its further integration. The head of the Eurasian Economic Commission and its members are appointed for four years, Republican lawmaker Khosrov Harutyunyan told A1+ when commenting on the new appointment of Armenia’s former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan who will head the Board of the EEU Council from February. Mr Harutyunyan stressed that the chief of the EEU Council will only act as coordinator who will coordinate the entire work for the implementation of policies in various areas of the EEU. Some say Tigran Sargsyan’s appointment will stimulate the switch to a single EEU currency. Khosrov Harutyunyan cites the example of the European Union, where the transition to a single currency lasted 40 years. He says it is rather complicated way. “I do not think that we can speak about a single currency as early as 2025-2030. We can always talk about desires and I repeat that it [the switch to a single currency]is not part of the mission of Tigran Sargsyan. Mr Harutyunyan also added that the EEU is still a political union, rather than a union based on national economies which are mutually beneficial and mutually demanded.
