Political analyst: Armenia-EU Association Agreement is becoming a reality (video)
Political analyst Sergey Minasyan says the signing of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement is not far off. “What has been talked about for a long time is becoming a reality. Political forces and European structures are preparing for it,” he said. Talks on the preparation of the legal component of the agreement started in 2013. “Now we can say that talks on the legal part of the document will get underway,” the political analyst said adding that the document will include items related to economic and political issues, visa liberalization, migration, human rights, economic reforms, EU support to Armenia. “Items related to foreign affairs and security issues will be incorporated, if they do not conflict with Armenia’s agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union,” Mr Minasyan added. He says the new document will be very close to the agreement which was previously put on the negotiating table and thinks that Armenia’s membership to the EEU will not interfere with the process. "On the contrary, I believe that Russia would be interested in finding new avenues of cooperation with the European Union and Armenia’s example might be a better option, at least in theory, to speak about political or economic synchronization of EU and EEU.” The political scientist explains his optimism in the following way: "Considering the fact that neither Armenia nor the EU have high ambitions, I believe that in the coming months we will see the continuation of this process to its logical end."
