Former head of the National Security Service Gurgen Yeghiazaryan supports the deployment of peacekeepers in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic; he expressed his opinion still two years ago. “The role of peacekeepers is more important in that section of the conflict zone. Azerbaijan has reviewed its strategy and is now bombing the borders of Armenia which is not a conflicting side. Armenia has made itself a conflicting party,” Mr Yeghiazaryan said today. “Armenia should withdraw from the situation very quickly because the conflict is to be decided between Artsakh and Azerbaijan. Peacekeepers need to be deployed in the conflict zone to maintain the status quo, otherwise border conflicts will continue,” he added. Former MP of the Supreme Council Azat Arshakyan also supports deployment of peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh. “We have no choice, we are forced to undergo aggression, foreign forces are occupying our territories and giving them to our rival,” he said. Then Mr Arshakyan drew an interesting parallel. “it does not matter whether they deploy the 11th army or other forces. The most important is that peace is established and maintained in the zone. I mean to say it can be Woodrow Wilson or Lenin with Ataturk, it does not matter. I personally would like to see Wilson,” he said.
