By keeping the situation tense on its border with Armenia, Azerbaijan shows its disapproval of the political reality existing around the Karabakh conflict. On the other hand, the leadership of that country [Azerbaijan] makes statements saying they are going to restore military rule in Karabakh, which they cannot do, says political analyst Sergey Minasyan. “Therefore, Azerbaijan keeps escalating the situation on the border with Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia trying to extort concessions from Armenia in the talks over Karabakh,” Mr Minasyan told A1+. The political analyst says the tensions cannot have a serious impact on the peace process; only peaceful civilians and servicemen are killed in the result. “Azerbaijan has put itself in this position. However, it should be noted that the conflicting parties have begun using heavy weapons, and it is no secret that the Armenian side has promised to give an appropriate response to Azerbaijan and it will not only target at military objects,” he said. Speaking about yesterday’s shelling of Armenian villages in Tavush marz, Mr Minasyan said Armenia has a positional advantage over Azerbaijan. He says by increasing the number of border violations Azerbaijan is also sending a powerful message to the superpowers reminding them about the Karabakh conflict.
