Assuming the CSTO chairmanship is a good chance for Armenia to try the coalition in terms of maintaining military-political security, thinks Styopa Safaryan, Founder of Armenian Institute on International and Security Affairs. “There were shootings also last night, and the authorities, which always guarantee for the CSTO coalition, now must show its role. The RA must fight against the adversary not only with its forces, but together with the organization.” Mr. Safaryan is sure that in case of the CSTO inactivity Azerbaijan will draw conclusions on the security of Armenia and will take more serious steps, “Azerbaijan mustn’t digest the happenings of this period. Baku will comment that even during the chairmanship they aren’t able to maintain the security. I partially agree with Seyran Ohanyan that in case of each shot the issue cannot be solved in the CSTO, but when the adversary uses armored vehicles, which is typical to war, we should hurry, the issue must be raised in the CSTO.” Stepan Safaryan thinks that Armenia must obligate its allies to fight jointly against Azerbaijan, “They must carry out their alliance commitments. Such decisions will essentially restrain Azerbaijan.” Touching upon the issue of Vahan Martirosyan, who passed into Azerbaijan and asked for political asylum, Stepan Safaryan said, “They worked well with Vahan, didn’t beat him, didn’t force him to speak as they did with Hakob Injighulyan. But a question arises whether they will leave the person in freedom, who already knows much. I think Vahan will be liquidated in the third country, most likely in Turkey.”
