We are not going to cooperate with any force, any person that was directly or indirectly involved in the March 2008 bloodshed, a senior representative of the Founding Parliament said on Sept. 21. The No” camp, a pressure group campaigning against the constitutional amendments, will not allow [former president] Robert Kocharyan to support them, but it will not stand in Kocharyan’s way either. “Any criminal who would try to repent and support us even from afar, will be refused,” said Zhirayr Sefilyan. He says the referendum on constitutional amendments should be thwarted through street protests and peaceful methods. “Should the authorities try to use violence, we shall not let our people unprotected.” Leader of the Heritage Party, Raffi Hovannisian, says people can fight against Serzh Sargsyan in a constitutional way. “I see no obstacles here,” he says. When reminded that his struggle with Serzh Sargsyan in the 2013 presidential elections proved unsuccessful, Mr Hovannisian said, “When our people want something, they wait for someone else to do it for them.” Raffi Hovannisian still has the will to unseat Serzh Sargsyan. “That man [Sargsyan] has gone too far,” he said. Ashot Manucharyan, a former member of the Karabakh Committee, says the draft constitution is aimed at destroying man. “All systems that have survived in our country – family, church, national and state – will be destroyed by new constitution.” “We shall do everything to win the fight,” he said. “The referendum is disgrace for us and if we allow the referendum it will mean we are allowing them to drive a wedge between us.”
