Armenia’s economy has appeared in such a situation that the government is unable to do anything to save it. But we have no right to sit idle, we should do something, says a member of the Armenian National Congress (HAK). Vahagn Khachatryan thinks Armenia should follow the example of Russia and devaluate the Armenian dram. “That was the best solution for Russia given the tight sanctions against the country. Alternatively, we can maintain the current rates of the currency. The economist reminds that the World Bank has also offered solutions to take Armenian of this grave economic situation. “International organizations give their assessments and make recommendations, but we need to make a political solution, the authorities need to demonstrate political will and solve economic problems," Mr Khachatryan said. The economist believes that the sale of the Electric Networks of Armenia will not save the country’s energy sector. “I was surprised to know that Russian decided to sell the ENA because until recently they were making different statements. But the sale will not solve the problems, and we will again face the same problems that we are facing today,” he said. Speaking about Hrant Bagratyan’s meeting with Serzh Sargsyan, the HAK member said, “It should be viewed as a political process. He [Bagratyan] might produce reasons to justify his visit to the Presidential Compound. We just need to know that in our political issues are resolved outside the political arena. "
